Hello there! Originally there is supposed to be only one o-ring.The other groove is for a sheet metal clip to lock the cable housing and prevent it from moving when a gear selection is done. That shrinking tube you mentioned is absolutely fine solution for a leaking cable housing.I replaced the o-ring, removed the old rubber from all the length of the cable and installed black shrinkig tube insted.So far I havenīt got any oil leaks on my 58 Plymouth transmission cable. Jone PS.Just remember to lubricate the o-ring with transmission oil before installation to prevent any damage to the new ring.
