Warm the motor up, normal idle speed, turn one of the mixture screws in al the way or untill the motor almost stops, then slowly back the screw out untill the motor smooths out. Then do the other side the same way. Sounds like you may be way out of adj. I'd do the same thing again. I can trun one of the mixture screws all of the way in on this old Ford, I think I have 'em backed out two and a half turns. I really have them set at the smoothest idle.
