Well, the way I always test my own charging system is fairly primitive:
Start the car, remove one of the battery cables so just the alternator or generator is running the car. If it dies, you have a problem in your charging system. If it doesn't die, turn on all your accessories. Radio, headlights, heater blower, brake lights, wipers, etc. If it runs all these you probably have a good charging system.
On alternator cars, an idle or slightly above should run everything. Generator cars may need to have the RPMs brought up to a cruising speed to run everything.
Not technical, but makes sense and has always worked for me.
