To me, it sounds like your new fuel pump is bad. The diaphram has a hole in it which allows the fuel line to empty back towards the tank when the vehicle sits. It will start because there is still fuel in the fuel bowl. Once that runs out, you get fuel starvation and the thing conks out. If it idles a while, the fuel pump can pump enough fuel to fill the fuel line and it drives normally.
