There's only two times when you REALLY have to do the repolarization;when the generator has been reconditioned/rebuilt,and in case of an accidental grounding/short/etc. If you exercise normal care in taking your battery cables on and off (needless to say,you should anyway!),the generator should stay polarized just fine.
