I hope i can help you with your problem, i have a 59 new yorker and i have the same problem, i found out that my brakes were stiking just enough to cause them to glaze over, and so little enough that i did not noitce. I have to rebuild the wheel cylinders, and bleed the brakes and that should take care of the problem. I found this out because a customer at work had the same problem and it took alot of time to figure out what the problem was. After i almost pulled out all of my hair out to figure out this problem my car started to do the same thing. i dont know if this will work for you car, but i hope that the info is useful.
