Steven, I retrofitted power steering to my '58 Dodge. As for the cocked wheel, where the steering box mounts to the frame, wedge shaped spacers are used to align the steering column so that it comes straight out from the dash and not cocked to the right or left. Check to see that these are used. Also check to see that the steering box is tightly bolted to the frame. I agree with all your other advice concerning alignment, etc. Hope this helps, and good luck with your car!
