Hi, As for the loose steering wheel I had a similar problem with my 58. I removed the wheel and found that the cone shaped bushing under the spring was worn out. I was able to find another from a parts car. After replacing it the loose wheel problem was solved. As for your wandering problem please be sure the cars caster angle is within spec's. This alignment angle is the most important one. If it is off by even a few degree's it will greatly affect the path of the car. Toe and camber should also be checked.
