hi, if you look at the back of the switch you can see where the casing is crimped over, if you gently prise back the crimping,you can dismantle the switch to clean it, sometimes when the switch has not been used for a while the copper coating oxidizes over making a bad connection, also check to see if there are any burnt places on the coil of wire for the dimmer switch, if there is a breakin the wire it will not work past that point as it is one continuos lenght coiled up, good luck paul
