I am about to install new upper and lower ball joints in my '58 Desoto Firesweep. The service manual says to put a jack under the lower control arm before removing and installing the new ball joints. The manual doesn't say anything about lessening the tension on the torsion bars. A friend of mine says the torsion bars have to be loosened up or the pressure on the control arms could be strong enough to throw the jack out from underneath. Does anyone know if I have to lossen up the torsion bars before I remove the ball jonints? Thanks for your help.
