Factory use of lead filler common in that era

The "Big 3" used lead filler in specific cars at least until the '70's...

Absolutely you can use lead today. I just saw an article in a recent Mopar magazine about using lead. Of course lead is nasty stuff to work with, finding someone willing to DO it (and who can do it right) is the bigger issue.

That said,despite all the advances in plastic fillers since the '70's,lead still has the big advantage in that it WILL NOT absorb moisture, ever. Even the best plastic fillers can't say that! A good lead fill is as close to 'forever' as you can get.
