The '58 Plymouth Belvedere saw the following production numbers :
. 4-dr sedan with L-6 : 4,621 . 4-dr sedan with V-8 : 42,960 . 4-dr hdtop with L-6 : 493 . 4-dr hdtop with V-8 : 17,458
The VIN won't tell anything (if I'm not mistaken) about the engine. The manufacturer plate will, it's located near the engine, on the firewall. If it says LP-1 it's a L-6, if it says LP-2 it's a V-8.
