I had a '67 model 727 rebuilt at Coleman Taylor Transmissions in Pasadena, Texas in 1977. I paid these guys an extra $75.00 because the engine had headers and I wanted a B&M Shift Kit I brought installed. I brought the car back 5 times with the front pump seal leaking like a sieve. Also, the shifts were very hard even at light throttle. I ultimatley took a course in automatic transmissions at a nearby community college so I could fix my own. When I pulled the tranny down, I discovered several things. First, the front pump was never rebuilt, letting the converter neck wobble around - knocking out the front seal in a short timel. The other made me extremely angry - they stole my shift kit and simply left the accumulator spring out which cushions the shift. Guys with more experience than me say that's ok, but I didn't like the slamming thru the gears. I replaced the spring, bought another shift kit, installed it and fixed the front pump and it worked fine. I don't know if this helps or clouds the issue, but that's my experience with accumulator springs. Herman
