My other car is a '61 Bug; back when it was a 6 volt, I cured the same problem with a 6v starter relay wired between the battery and starter. This site (http://www.oroad.com/volkswebbin/wall/technical/index.mv)should be able to steer you through the procedure if you search on it. A bit off topic, my apologies, but 6v problems are a common occurence with Bugs and there's a lot of people on that site well versed on 6v systems. Good luck! -David
