Actually, there are many who would say that the first muscle car might have been the '51 Saratoga; same Hemi running gear as the New Yorker but 7" shorter wheelbase and lighter. For sure the beginning of the horsepower race was the '51 331" Chrysler Firepower with an under rated 180 HP, compared to the Cadillac 331" with 160 HP! Paul H
