Thanks to all for the excellent advice! I've done some careful examining, and unfortunately, it appears to be more complex than a dipstick tube or shifter cable leak. As I have NO expertise when it comes to trannys, I've taken it to a trustworthy shop for an examination/repair (if affordable, gulp!). I'll keep you posted as they tear into it. Again, many thanks for the replies and advice, this site never fails to educate (and entertain) me! -David
