Dud, you raised a very good issue. This is a question that I have been asking for a long time! I own a 1958 Plymouth Belvedere with the dual quad package. My air cleaners are the flat oval type that sit directly right on top of the carburaters. So they are quite a bit different than the "bat wing breathers" that you may be looking for. The idea that I had though, was to have them re-created in fiberglass. The way they are designed I think they would be plenty strong enough to withstand the tension put on them by the wing nut. The problem is, I haven't been able to find any one that would be interested enough to spend the time to take these air-cleaners and make a fiber glass mold of them.(if I knew the process I would attempt it myself, as I am a body man.) Imagine the money you could make off just ten sets of em! The other problem I have is I wouldn't trust a job like that to just anyone. God knows how much I paid for em (and how long it took me to find em). Imagine how many happy Christine Cloners would be in a state of euphoria if someone was to recreate these air-cleaners. I would bet dollars to 57 Chevy hub caps that there would be a lot of happy people out there. For some the air-cleaners are all they need to complete their dual-quad package. For some a dream come true!
