I have used a asingle reservoir master with disc brakes with no problem. But you have to remove the residual chek valve from the master cylinder. It is usually found at the output port. Then a residual check valve needs to be installed in the line to the rear brakes, 10 lb valve. The line to the front brakes does not need one if the master is higher than the wheel cylinders such as mounted on the firewall. My situation required a 2 lb valve to the front discs as my master (48 Ply convert) was under the floor. Corvette rotors a calipers on front stock rear---works great.... I'm sure this is your problem.
