Best way to remove both the engine and the trans as a unit is to remove the radiator and pull the front radiator support (horsecollar) out of the vehicle. Also, mark and remove the hood, as you will need to pick the engine out with the balance point on the chain near the rear of the engine. Remove the distributor cap and wires, carburetor, and generator to allow for chain movement. Plug carb manifold base with a rag to prevent contaminants from falling in. Hook a good chain diagonally from the passenger front side to the driver's rear and give yourself about 4 inches height on chain above carb pad. Hook onto the chain between the carb pad and the distributor as a starting point. This will allow the engine front to riase slightly and the trans rear to drop slightly, but be close enough to balance point to allow manuverability. Remove trans from mount, take out cross piece, and support. Undo trans cooler lines (if equipped), and fuel line to fuel pump, plus all electrical. Unbolt motor mounts, lift slowly and with a pair of friends helping, wiggle and work the engine up and out. Take your time, but this is best way to remove. You can then replace the horsecollar for pushing the vehicle around.
