Car accessory companies had been selling Alternators to retrofit Police and Ambulance vehicles for years before Mopar made the big change to the AC alternator in 1960 with the Valiant. Obviously, they worked out well enough in the Valiant, so they were installed in all the Mopar cars in 1961.
