Did you remove the distributor at all? I replaced mine on my 61 poly 318 and i lined up the rotor with the mark i made for the last one, installed the new one, put all the wires on correctly...and it wouldnt start. It would sputter and backfire out the carb. I re did the firing order about 5 times before i gave up. I went inside, had a beer and went back outside and thought i should try to turn the distributor around. I turned it 180 degrees and the car fired right up...i hooked up the timing light and it was spot on. Try this if you removed your old distributor...it may seem silly but it may work... Jon
