A hydraulic puller has three legs, and a threaded central shaft to take up large adjustments. In the centre of this shaft is an oil filled column with a finer threaded 'T' handled adjuster. This is where the extra pulling power comes from. No bashing, and a controlled pressure. Probably a bit difficult to make. Try machine shops.
