I had my driveshaft replaced by a newly fabricated one which uses a conventional front u-joint while retaining my original transmission & parking brake set up. I was also sharply criticized by a couple of posters to the board for A.) changing the originality of the car and B.) for what it cost (about the same as a N.O.S. ball and trunnion unit.) If the front u-joint turns out to be the cause and the housing is worn excessively, please e-mail me privately and I'll fill you in on the details. Imagine trying to find a replacement ball and trunnion unit in Spanish Fork or Nephi on a Sunday afternoon! :-) You can always convert back to a ball and trunnion if you want a one hundred percent original car. But I know a shop in town that can make you a new driveshaft with conventional u-joints and a flange to bolt to your original transmission's brake drum.
