if the rear axel is not a sure grip "locker type" it is hard to find out the ratio unless there is a metal tag on one of the studs that holds the center section in. i have built several rear axels and just because it was run low on fluid does not mean the gears are bad. you may just be able to replace the bearings. it's a can of worms that has to be opened in order to repair. i would pull out the center section "pumpkin" and then decide what to do next. hope this helps.
