If it's like my 1953 Windsor, it is a semi-automatic with clutch. Mine shared oil with the engine. It was called "tip-toe shift", you got speed up to about 25-30 MPH, took your foot off gas pedal and waited for the up-shift. Best place to post for this topic is Antique Automobile Club of America, they have various forums, one is for Chrysler's. There is a guy there who always responds to questions about those transmissions.
