The manaul was telling you the truth. The boot can be replaced without the disassembly of the joint. I've done it several times between my 55 Chrysler and 57 Dodge. They don't want you to press that pin out unless you really have to because if the pin is not properly removed and re-installed, you'll get a nasty drive line quiver. Your best bet for the next time is to have your friendly drive line service change the u-joints to be the modern cross and roller type. I did that on both my 55 and my 57 and life is better. They're easy to replace, easy to grease, easy to find and cheap to buy. It's not original, but, in this case, that's a good thing. Mopar Randy
