I would do a trans with the engine, buy a donor car and get the whole works it is usually cheaper if you have enough room to store a donor car while stripping it. A small block V-8 would work pretty good. You have lots of room but if you go to a heavier block you might find the brakes/suspension overworked.(On the 6 cylinder Plymouth the trans mount is welded in. On the 8s its bolted, so you might have to cut that member out and build a new one.) Should be lots of interesting ideas come out of this post!
