I should have added that the ignition switch that gave me all that grief was a N.O.S. switch. A brand new (or never used older) part can sometimes be defective. An intermittent short (bad insulation on a wire for example, allowing it to ground against something) or a failing condenser could also cause such problems. If your wiring harness is the same asthe ones in my '59 Plymouths, your ignition switch should be wired as follows; the red thick wire should go to the BAT terminal, the thin blue wire should go to the IGN terminal, the yellow wire should go to the SI terminal and the black wires (one single, plus two more sharing a common connector) should go to the ACC terminal.
