Yep, I agree with Deaner. Over time, clearances increase with wear. With all engines, when you first start it, the oil pressure is as good as it will ever get at idle. As the engine warms up, those clearances increase even more, causing internal pressure loss (internal bleeding if you will). Try replacing the oil pump first and if that doesn't fix it, you will need an overhaul. The fact that the lifters start clattering after it warms up says the clearances are so bad, the lifters don't have enough oil pressure to stay pumped up. I wouldn't run this engine anymore until it's fixed. You will only damage it more. Good Luck.
