Bob....Cam grinding is done to prevent the infamous "piston slap" and scuffing of aluminum pistons in bores, since the expansion of the piston varies with the temperature profile. Basically, you end up with a "barrel" shaped piston, so the the top has expansion room (so as not to gall), and the lower area has a "rocking" clearance to prevent scuff at the bottom. The center is then te correct diameter for the bore fit and clearance. Best way to get your profile is to atake an old undamaged piston to a machine shop and have them profile it, then place that profile onto your new pistons.
