Hello Lou, They're not that hard to find at all. Look in the TX area, they seem to be the most prevalent there. I found a system for my '59 Fury in TX. Now as far as what's proprietary to the system would be the dash mounted vents and the controls. The interior mounted distribution system (vents, blower motor, etc. is '59 only. They changed every year as far as that went. Now as to what's under the hood, you got it easy. Any '59-'64 evaporator assembly would fit without any trouble. Now when I say that, I mean they interchange. To convert from a heat only car to an A/C car, you have to remove the tack welded plate that surrounds the heater core from the firewall. Also the fresh air vent has to be cut out. You will have to cut it out to fit the evaporator and fresh air vent to the interior. Now as far as engine bracketry, pulleys, and other components, you are fortunate that Ma Mopar didn't change things too much until the 70's. All you need are parts from a B motor car. The most common application would be a '60 Chrysler (except New Yorker, 300 or anything with the 413, you need a 383 car to donate)remember, last year for the generator. Other than that, be sure to take the radiator from the car that's donating as they are ususally a 3 or 4 row design. If you tell me what part no. radiator you have, I can help you go from there. Take Care-Frank Hi, I am thinking of addiing air conditioning to my '59 Coronet. I'd prefer to retrofit original A/C components, but I am sure that will be very hard to find. anyone know the production figures for '59 Dodges equipped with a/c? I have not found that info in any reference material. If they only made 14 cars with factory A/C in '59, then I won't bother scouting yards and ads for parts. :-) I presume 57-60ish parts will be similar, with the exception of the controls. anyone know for sure what parts are interchangable? Also...were the compressors and mounting different between the V8 engines? Mine has the 383 D-500 My friend suggested using an aftermarket under-dash unit from the same era instead of late model Vintage Air or something since it would look more authentic and possibly easier to find. Still, factory A/S would be so much nicer. If anyone has any suggestions or info (or parts!), please let me know. Regards, Lou
