I will bow to Bob O. on his assessment of the engine ID at this moment. However, the 277 block might be repairable. These old engine were using nickle-iron for blocks, not the grey iron (that uses carbon in the matrix) You should be able to electric weld with a high nickle rod. Time to do it is when they put the block in the "cooker" and burn off all the nasties. Then it should be welded and reinstalled to prevent distortion/cracking. Alumcan can probably walk you through the process in detail for a guy locally to do it (he just has to be a decent electric welder to start, NOT an amatuer) If this works out, you could salvage that block as a spare for your car (hey - its a number matching engine, as they say).
