Yes, the small block Ford is a tight squeeze under that hood, and no doubt changing to the Mopar LA V8 would have required lots of costly re-engineering. (new front crossmember,etc.) The early Alpine's cool fins were sadly gone by the time the Tiger appeared. An early Alpine would be a neat base for a "Tiger 340" with a Mopar 340 and fins!
