I removed a hub recently from a DeSoto rear axle, and it was probably one of the more difficult jobs I have encountered. The way I FINALLY got it off was to bolt a 3/4" steel plate with a 5/8" UNF grade 8 bolt threaded through a hole I made in the center (plus a UNF grade 8 nut welded on the outside) to the drum using hex rod adapters (with for me RIGHT-hand threads, but you can make them up for LEFT-hand as well) that were screwed onto the wheel studs and bolted flush to the 3/4" plate. Then, with the castellated nut and washer removed and the nut turned arond and srewed back on flush to end of the axle, I tightened up the 5/8" bolt slowy, and also used penetrating oil and som low- heat (propane torch) to warm up the hub. When tight, I hammered on the end of the bolt with a large brass hammer, retightened, and repeated. After about 45 minutes of this, plus a variety of choice magic words, it popped loose. Good luck!
