The engine number on the 1961 Slant 6 block is on the left side of the block at the front and below the cylinder head. The first 3 digits will be "R-22",followed by its month/day. An engine made Aug. 3 would be R-22-8-3,made Dec. 10 would be R-22-12-10,etc. In the VERY rare chance that the number boss is in the correct location but BLANK that would be a warranty replacement engine!
