If your car has ever spent any winters on the street in road salt country, check the frame area under the firewall, where the bars are anchored. I have seen cars collapse when the stress from the torsion bars' rotation caused this rust-weakened area to rip free from the chassis. While this was usually seen on A-Body unibody cars seeing many years of winter driving, it is still worth checking out on any torsion bar equipped car. This also includes 1960-62 Chevy half ton pick ups. They also used a Mopar style torsion bar front suspension. Some mid-1950s Packards also used torsion bars.
