Back in the 60s, I drove a 57 Ply to school, it use to backfire everytime you took your foot off of the gas if you were moving at the time, found it to be a deffective rotor, it had excessive play in it, and with the backlash of letting off of the throtle, would align the rotor up with the wrong spark-plug, just a thought.
