Blair, No special tool is needed. You will need a thin screw driver or something similar. The handel is held on by a square spring clip. Push the panel in far enough to see the clip and use the tool to lift the edge of the clip and then rock the handle and it will come off. Its tedious it took me about an hour to get all four of my handels loose. Hope that helps.
