Rick, I know that the only 318 engine in 1957 was the Polyshere type. It had the two four barrel carbs. dual point distributer, and a nice cam. The "Polyshere" engine's heads are close to being a hemi in valve configuration and spark plug location. The real hemi's have two rocker shafts to operate the valves and a more central location for the spark plugs. The "Poly" engines did offer a lot of the same breathing characteristics as the hemi, but were not as complex to manufacture. However, your grandfather probably spent a small fortune in gas and maintanance bills. Good engines none the least. Googd luck. I hope I helped a little!.........Eddie
