The Chrysler early Hemi has some interchangeability with the LA smallblock, since the LA smallblock was based on the A (polysphere) smallblock which was basically the same as the Hemi. Of course, I can't find the magazine which stated interchangeability, but if I remember right, the distributor should be compatible with the LA smallblocks. There are also conversion kits meant specifically for that distributor, and Mallory makes new distributors for that engine as well. There is also the possibility of going with a Pertronix unit which would probably cost roughly half as much as a new distributor.
