Killer engine and a testimony to “deep breathing” through the free-ingesting K&N filters. Gary P. From: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> On Behalf Of NICHOLAS TIBERIO Sent: Monday, March 1, 2021 5:15 PM To: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: 64 Sport Fury Hood scoop I had photos and measurements from a friend on were to make the cuts in the bracing. I had hood insulation but removed it as it was rubbing on the air cleaners and waring the paint along the from edges. The holes in the template for the carbs are only for the airhorns and foam seals when racing. Just as an added note, I used the max wedge air cleaners for show, they were very restrictive for street driving. I made base plates and used K&N filters when driving and it allowed the engine to come alive!!! Nick, I've downloaded the pictures. I thought the hood scoop was correct, but know better now so won't be using it. I'll stick with the modified steel hood. I don't understand the themplate with the air cleaner patterns though. Did you do that first so you'd know what had to be cut out? Also, did you put in any hood insulation after or not? Thanks for helping out. /Butch On Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 11:54:48 AM UTC-8 FuryUs63 wrote: Bill beat me to this reply. Yes, but if you are using the original air cleaners the inner hood bracing will have to be removed for clearance. Here is a photo of the bracing removed, and also a template. I did this same modification to my '63 Max Wedge for these air cleaners. Nick, will the cross ram 426 MW fit under my steel hood ? To answer your question on a '64 B-body Plymouth only aluminum package cars had hood scoops. Cars with hood scoops did not have hood spears or call out ornaments. The hood spear in your photo is the short spear found on Savoy and one Belvedere sedans. Long hood spears were found on Belvedere hardtops, fury, and sport fury models. Many owners added hood scoops to hoods when they added cross rams or had steel hoods with no scoop and wanted one. Restoring cars will find this short hood spear used by many that add scoops so it is a common thing to see, again your choice. My original '64 aluminum nose car was hood scoop, no spear, my '64 steel nose car was long spear no hood scoop. As I move along with the restoration of my 64 Sport Fury 426 Max Wedge, I'm seriously thinking about putting a hood scoop on it. I'd like to get one that is correct to the car, so hope you can help. I have what I think is the correct hood spear for a hood scoop application. I't s 17" long.
