Jim J., a member here, posted a picture of the engine bay when he was restoring his 1964. Maybe that will help. (The 
photo is small because back in the dial-up Internet days it was necessary to keep the file size small to allow the file to 
load.)

Seems I remember hearing, but can't verify, that primer varied depending on the plant where the car was made. 
Grey primer was the most used, black primer at the Los Angeles plant.
