RE: Torqueflite Pushbuttons

Whoops, sorry.  I clicked “reply” and thought I was replying just to Gary P.  Thanks to Matt, Scott, Paul L. and Larry too for your input.  My car’s currently in the shop so hopefully I can retrieve those codes tomorrow and then see where that leads us.  Thanks again.

Bill, I am using an “early” pushbutton assembly in my ’56 Plymouth with an aluminum case 1965 slip-yoke 727 and have not gotten to finishing that modification as yet.  However, the “simple” solution is to re-label the incorrect buttons on the face.  Change D to 1 and vice versa.

Bill, This may seem simplistic, but since you already know that the transmission switch made the push buttons out-of-order, might you be able to switch the buttons to make the Drive and First buttons correct?  Many of the buttons have a "dog-leg" which might make that difficult (especially on 57-59 Mopars), but since the buttons are "push-on", might be worth looking at a a simple "fix".  Much easier that opening up the tranny.....

I always look for the simplest way to fix things (Keep It Simple, Stupid -KISS)

Hi, Gary -

Didn't think I'd be contacting you again since I got the 1960 Desoto, but I still look at your website occasionally, because of my interest in Mopars.  Anyway, the restorers of my car put a later model Torqueflite tranny in it.  It's aluminum with park sprag so I'm guessing at this point it might be a 727, around 1963.  Before I bought it, seller disclosed that tranny worked fine, but pushbuttons were out of order.  It's does function properly, but to put it in Drive, I have to push First.  To get First, I have to push Drive.  In other words the horizontal pattern on this car actually is R-N-1-2-D, whereas it should be R-N-D-2-1.  So D & 1 are just reversed.  Do you, or any of your members, know what has to be done to correct this?  I've done quite a bit of research on your site, as well as FL Net, and seems there were different PB housings used in different cars and at different times, including one that was in the R-N-1-2-D configuration, perhaps for racing set-ups.  But I'm not sure of whether this can be changed with the cable, slides or actuator???  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bill
