Re: Are Intake Manifold Gaskets Required on a 440?

My 361 Engine Builder told me the same thing, then I developed a vacuum leaks in the car ran terrible, it’s worth the $8 insurance, I had to disassemble my intake and put in gaskets
I could see the vacuum leaks with black streaks on some of the poorly machined Surfaces

I'm getting to reassemble my 440 engine for my '62 Sport Fury, it's not a high performance engine or anything.  A buddy of mine who has assembled several 440 engines stated that I don't need the intake manifold gaskets, they are 'nice to have' since the valley pan gasket suffices, and he's run several engines without them with no problem.

I'm a little doubtful of this claim, but wanted to get your thoughts?  Anyone else have a similar viewpoint?

Thanks much - Wade
