Re: Odd Problem

The box I had was a proform and it gave me trouble. You can try the rockauto ones maybe they are better then the proform one. Or it could be one china company makes it and everyone puts there name on it. Im not sure if this is true but I did hear mopar guys will not buy these boxes made by mopar performance after a certain year because they have troubles with them they switched manufacturers and went with china to make them. It was 80s or 90s it could be just another story but I believed it after it happened to me. Thats been happening with all car parts with me from the parts stores not everyone but more then I want. The best is when the plugs dont fit right they are alittle off.

No trouble on the drive the other day so we're going to try it again today while have great weather. Chuck, you answered one question I had about off brand Orange boxes.  I looked on Rock Auto and Summit and the prices were about the same and I'm guessing that's  going to be far less than what I'd pay at a dealer.  I'll check the brands at Rock Auto and see if they are selling Proform.  Will any orange box work regardless of year?  I just plugged in 1974 as I think that is the year of my engine.

problem after rewiring my engine compartment.  The engine will just shut off while driving.  No sputtering or anything it just shuts off like someone threw a switch.  It will not restart while in motion but as soon as I pull to a stop it will start right up.  It happened at 5 mph, 35 mph, and 60 mph.  It has happened after driving 2 blocks, 5 miles, and 10 miles.  When rewiring I soldered every connection and I eliminated the ammeter.  I had driven it several times for up to an hour and never had a problem. And now it has happened the last 3 times I drove it.  The last time it happened after driving 10 miles, but then I drove it an additional 30 miles with no problem.  I'm running an orange box and an Accel coil.
When eliminating the ammeter the 10 ga. red wire that ran to the ammeter was relocated to the starter relay. A second 10 ga. wire was run from the starter relay to the black 10 ga. wire under the dash that had run to the ammeter as it supplies power to the dash. Just wondering if I have too much power running to the starter relay.  I'm still running a stock alternator.
Any ideas?
