We don't have 'lockdown' here, but it's awfully close to it...
No more than two people together anywhere unless all are from the same home. In public, at home, in the car, anywhere. If I took my wife for a walk and a neighbour decided to join us we could each be fined $1330. But we are allowed outside for exercise as long as there's only two of us. We're allowed to go to the shops to get supplies, there is some insistence on them being 'necessary' supplies, or to the pharmacy or to the doctor. I guess if we have to drive we can get fuel along the way.
And those who have a job and can't work remotely (ie. at home) can go to work.
Restaurants are only take-away now, bars are shut but bottle shops are open (are they necessities?) and we're advised to not venture too far from our own locality.
All the new stricter parts of this were announced last night when I was away from home at my shed (it's about 85 miles from home) scheming up the bits to make it possible to convert the clutch on my van from mechanical to hydraulic. The van is an '87 B350 with a 360 and it looks likely to chew up overdrive A833s so in a fit of madness I imported an NV4500 to put into it. That's in Sydney and I can't at the moment retrieve it so I'm doing all the fabrication like that needed for the clutch ready to go down there and fit it up at a friend's place.
So why can't I go to Sydney? Early this week the Queensland Government closed the borders and anyone wanting to enter Queensland has to do a 14-day self-isolation stint, which will be checked on periodically to see that they comply. Huge fines for non-compliance.
The gearbox conversion won't be done until this madness is over, but in the meantime I'm enjoying myself as much as I can creating stuff. When I get tired of doing bits for the van I can go back to making the pattern to cast an adaptor plate to mate up the Hemi 6 engine to the A833s.
In the meantime, Nick, I remember well the evening I spent in your garage, your wife making us coffee and seeing all those trophies. How is that new one going to blend in with the others?
