Re: Pertronix III Ignitor

Thanks for the replies guys, good info and got me to read more and better understand the vacuum advance function.  I did the "stealthy ballast resistor bypass", am happy with the setup so far but ignoring the if it aint broke don't fix it theory, I think I will change it from port to manifold vacuum.

Hello,

I used the Pertronix III billet distributor in my 383 years ago when they first come out with the billet distributor.  I did not want to deal with any issues the old distributor may have had and I am very happy with the results.  Two items, the Pertronix unit does not use the ballast resistor and vacuum advance is extremely important as has been stated.  Then you have a choice of manifold vacuum or ported off of the carburetor, I went with manifold vacuum.

I just replaced the points in my '65 383 dual-point distributor with a Pertronix III Ignitor (also got their flame thrower coil) and can't find any info on whether or not I still need the vacuum advance hooked up. I haven't gotten a reply to my questions from their tech dept. Wondering if anyone here knows. Bill
