Any body have any experience with hardening metal with oxy torch and oil quenching. I remember doing it in Machine shop class, barely. I am rebuilding a 4 speed for my Barracuda and the cluster gear was in great shape except tips of the straight cut reverse gears. I cleaned them up carefully but I think I should re-harden them. I have heard hardening only penetrates about .020 so I am concerned. Being reverse it shouldnt be as critical as a forward speed gear, but still..... Trying to avoid buying a new cluster from Brewers. (OUCH!!) Already had to buy a new main shaft from brewers as mine had brinneling on forward tip.( Double OUCH!!)
