First....thanks for being here!!
I'm getting serious about restoring my 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury. I have a date correct 426 Max Wedge for it and an A-727 floor shifter. I had a question about tire sizes, (what is the largest tire I can fit under the rear wheel wells), found the answer I wanted immediately here on the forum. Turns out the previous owner had done that work for me.
You guys/gals are the best.
Now, on to my question: The car has a 2070141 rear end in it. If I've ID'd it correctly, this is a rear end designed for a smaller CID motor, typically an A body.
1. I don't want to change the end to end length of the rear axle assembly. The steel wheels and tires on the car are "perfect", as is.I don't know what the rear end is out of, but it's not a B-body tapered axle....and I don't want a B-body tapered axle.
2. Can I simply change the pumpkin out to a different one? A heavier set of rear gears?
3. If so, what should I be looking for?
4. If not, what do you recommend?
5. Feel free to educate me.
Thanks all.
