Re: Intakes

don,

are you going to have the intake port matched to your heads?
do you plan to dyno the engine after the head work?  if so, it would be a great opportunity to swap intakes (dual/single plane) and garner test results in a controlled environment.
while the performer RPM is a great design (high rise dual plane), i'm with gary p. on how it can outperform a good single plane in a race engine.  the dual plane has half the plenum of the single plane thus reducing the amount of air/fuel to each cylinder, so at high RPM you will run out of air/fuel before you run out of cam or head.  also, wouldn't your cam signal (resonance) be different for half the cylinders as the runners are different length?
however, i do think the performer RPM will reduce your 60' times.  another thing the dual plane will do is get rid of the 5/7 firing sequence dilemma if you believe that you have that issue.

with that said, i have an engine that sounds similar to yours in my '64 (549 HP).  it is a street engine with a performer RPM intake and it ran 11.7s in the three passes it made at the drag strip with a best of 11.76.

good luck with the new combination and let us know how it works out,
mike

It's bored 60 over, stock stroke. Heads are CNC'D Edelbrock Performer. The head work was done over the winter so that and the RPM Performer dual plane intake are the significant changes over the winter. It dynoed at 503 HP before the change and I'm guessing we picked up 50 HP with improved air flow based on nothing.

That sounds good let us know what you think of the change. Is you 440 30 over or is it stroked? What heads do you have?

The race car gurus, who I respect as such, told me to take the Torker 2 off my Belvedere and install a RPM Performer which means I'm going from a single to dual plane on a 550 HP 440 race motor. I'll see how that works out in a couple weeks.  The guy who did the work on the heads over the winter avreed.

Dual planes are nice for the low end torque great for street use. I am not sure about the 2 carbs, it may be to much unless you have a stroker with heads and a cam that will let it flow.
